Construction is underway on Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns County Family Birth Place, the healthcare system announced.
Ascension said in a news release that the 27,000-square-foot addition to its medical center at 205 Trinity Way, northeast of the juncture of Interstate 95 and Old County Road 210, is planned for a summer 2027 opening.
It will include a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with four private rooms and a dedicated family lounge for NICU patients, plus 14 private delivery suites with accommodations for family, according to Ascension.

Brasfield & Gorrie of Birmingham, Alabama, is the contractor. HKS architects of Orlando designed the facility.
St. Vincent’s St. Johns County did not provide the costs to build and equip the facility.
“Families in St. Johns County deserve access to exceptional maternity care in their own community,” Sean McAfee, interim president and CEO of Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns County, said in the news release.
“This new Family Birth Place reflects our continued commitment to serving our fast-growing county with compassionate, personalized care rooted in our mission.”

The release states that the county’s population is expected to double by 2050, according to the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan.
Birthing services are also offered at UF Health Flagler Hospital in St. Johns County and at Baptist Medical Center South near the border of Duval and St. Johns counties.
