Dogtopia issued build-out permit in St. Augustine

The pet day care and boarding center would be the company's first location in St. Johns County.

Dogtopia is planning a pet day care in St. Augustine, its first in St. Johns County.

St. Johns County issued a build-out permit Feb. 12 for a 5,000-square-foot space at 25 Alsop Court at a project cost of $850,000. The site is about 1.5 miles north of Northeast Florida Regional Airport off U.S. 1.

Alsop Property Management LLC, through 5600 US1 North LLC, is the property owner, according to the St. Johns County Property Appraiser’s Office website.

The Malle Co. of Jacksonville is the contractor. 

Dogtopia centers offer pet day care, overnight boarding and spa services.

Prices and hours vary by location. One day of care during operating hours is $35 to $40, with overnight boarding $55 to $65.

Founded in 2002 in Virginia, Dogtopia says it has 285 centers in the United States and Canada, most of them franchises. It is headquartered in Phoenix.

In Jacksonville, it operates centers at 11300 Beach Blvd., 1075 Hendricks Ave. and 9365 Philips Highway.
