Fourth Judicial Circuit celebrates America’s 250th anniversary

The American flag that was displayed for 13 years on the south facade of the Duval County Courthouse and removed Feb. 4 is preserved and on permanent display inside the courthouse to commemorate the United States’ 250th anniversary.

The June 18 dedication ceremony was led by 4th Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Lance Day and 4th Circuit Clerk of Courts Jody Phillips joined by U.S. Rep. Aaron Bean, U.S. Rep John Rutherford, Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department representatives and Jacksonville City Council members.

Outside the courthouse, the lawn in front of the entrance is covered with American flags that will remain in place through July 4.

The original flag above the entrance was replaced with a new 60-foot-wide banner.
