The Jacksonville Bankruptcy Bar Association met Thursday at the Radisson to hear Florida Coastal School of Law professor Mike Jorgensen talk about the civil practice clinic he operates on campus. He went from 16 years in private practice to teaching at Florida Coastal.

Through the school’s clinic, a controlled environment is provided where aspiring law students can test their skills without doing damage to a client.

“The purpose of the clinic was not only to give students the opportunity to learn law but also to be of service to the community,” said Jorgensen. “In 1995 when Florida Coastal School of Law came here it was not well-received. Jacksonville was the biggest metropolitan area, population-wise, without a law school. I saw it as an asset for the community and not saturating the market with lawyers.”
