It was a full house at the Women’s Council of REALTORS holiday and installation luncheon held at the San Jose Country Club last month.
Millie Kanyar of Watson Realty was installed as the 2003 WCR president.
“Boy, are you guys in for a surprise,” said Kanyar. “You have no idea what you have just done. I work hard and I play hard. I have a great crew that will be working with me this year and through that work, the organization will benefit and grow. I’m looking forward to a wonderful new year.”
Cathy Whatley, the 2003 National Association of REALTORS president, was on hand to install the new board.
“WCR gave me my first leadership opportunity and I didn’t know then where it would lead me,” said Whatley. “So, reach for the stars because you never know where it might lead you.”
Other board members are Jeanne Denton-Scheck as president-elect, Dianne Pittman as vice president of membership, David Wakefield as treasurer and Carolyn Minor as secretary.
Reba Skeens Mossman, also of Watson Realty, stepped down as president. As she handed the gavel over to Kanyar, she had a few parting words.
“I want to thank the nominating committee for getting me to take this position last year,” said Mossman. “It has helped me personally and in my career. I had a great time and now I’m ready to step down.”
Each attendee was asked to bring a teddy bear to be donated to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Officers Gary Oliveras and Vanessa Bass were on hand to receive the teddy bears.
“The teddy bears really do come in handy,” said Bass. “Police officers get dispatched to many calls and if a child is involved or upset, the teddy bear can really help to calm them down. It helps them to take their mind of what we are doing or what is happening.”
