A new social group with a purpose has been started by Judy Hicks of Re/Max Real Estate Specialists.

The women-only group meets at a different person’s house about every two months. They show up at the door with a check for $25 and a covered dish and discuss ways to help the girls at daniel.

According to Hicks, the Womenade mission statement is to mentor the young girls at daniel living in group homes or in Independent Village through career development, fun and community service. Also, to meet periodically and raise money for them and to teach them to dream big.

“I started the group because I did not want to do any ‘events’ like the WCR Fashion Show but I still wanted to raise money,” said Hicks. “We network as women and it’s a really fun thing to do. The purpose is to raise money, mentor girls, and help daniel with ‘special projects’.”

Hicks said they have 30-40 regulars and approximately 50 that make donations.

They are currently working on the “Dog House Project” — the City of Jacksonville is giving daniel a voucher to adopt two puppies. Womenade and D.S. Ware Homes are funding the project.

D.S. Ware Homes is donating all of the supplies and Womenade will supply the support by helping pick out the puppies and mentoring the kids with the puppies. want to know more? Call Hicks at 463-2877.
