Jessica Pozin has been an account executive with Nationstar Mortgage for about a month.
WHAT DOES SHE DO?
Nationstar Mortgage is a non-conforming wholesale lender. “I call on mortgage brokers and ask them to use our loan products.”
NATIONSTAR MORTGAGE?
The company, previously known as Centex Home Equity, started in 1997. Their corporate office is in Dallas and has an office in West Palm Beach. They do not have an office in Jacksonville and Pozin works out of her home.
“They don’t actually need an office here to do the loan. That’s what I like. When I was in titles, I was kind of limited to where the title company’s locations are. With this I have all of Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, Orange Park, just everywhere because it doesn’t matter where our office is.”
BEFORE THERE?
She was with First American Title as a sales representative for four and a half years. She started with First American Title as a closer for two years before moving up to a sales representative.
WHY SWITCH TO THE MORTGAGE INDUSTRY?
“It is a great opportunity and offers a lot of independence.”
HOW ARE THEY ALIKE?
Both jobs offered her a chance to be out of the office and focus on customer service, but since she had closing experience, she was pulled out of the field more often in her previous job to do closings rather than out selling. “I was doing closings as well as sales and I love sales. I want to be out in front of people and doing presentations.”
Did You Know?
• Most sellers preferred using an agent with a full-service brokerage firm – one in which professionals handle all aspects of the transaction process, from listing to closing. More than four-fifths of sellers – 83 percent – reported their real estate professional provided a broad range of services and managed most aspects of their home sale.

• The most frequently-cited reason given by FSBO sellers (51 percent) was that they did not want to pay the real estate agent’s commission. A significant share (22 percent) did not use an agent because they sold their home to a friend or relative. Among sellers who sold their home without ever using an agent, 22 percent noted the main reason for selling as FSBO was they sold it to someone they knew.

COLLEGE
She has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Florida State University and a master’s degree in business administration from University of North Florida.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO MARKETING?
“I always knew I wanted to do something that involved people and presentations. I like working with people and doing presentations so I thought sales would be good. I also like making my own schedule.”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOUR NEW JOB?
“The people and the openness to be able to see anyone I want in Jacksonville and not be limited to a specific location.”
HOW DOES YOUR PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE HELP?
“I know a lot more of the underwriting requirements from a title perspective. I think it will help me when I work with mortgage brokers because I’ve been on the title side and now I’m on the loan side and I know our loan process, I will hopefully be able help them have a smoother transaction.”
BEST PROFESSIONAL ADVICE EVER RECEIVED?
“Be consistent and a person of your word. All you have is your reputation.”
IN THIS BUYER’S MARKET WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO DRUM UP BUSINESS?
“As a sales person, I need to interview the mortgage companies to find out which ones are producing because they are the ones that find customers. Then I decide who I should call on.”
PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS?
Jacksonville Women’s Council of Realtors, Womenade, Northeast Florida Association of Realtors and Florida Association of Mortgage Brokers.
ADVICE FOR MORTGAGE BROKERS?
“Have all your paperwork in together because it will make it a smoother process. Be honest about the loan and have your stipulations that we need in as soon as possible.”
INVOLVMENT IN WCR AND WOMENADE?
Pozin is the secretary for the Jacksonville WCR. “My goal is to get more involved and really bring it to a new level. I want to get more Realtors involved and do more things like an after-hours social thing just to get more people involved and make it more interesting.” She joined Womenade to network, but once she got more involved and learned about daniel (the charity they support) she loved it. “I just got more and more involved and now I help them with projects and everything. I was involved in the Children’s Home Society while I was in college, so it was nice to get back involved with the kids. We have a thing called daniel’s Honors where we reward the kids for good grades. We take them to dinner and we are going to take them to a hockey game and try to get them excited about doing well.”
