Jacksonville City Councilman John Crescimbeni announced last month that temporary directional sign permits can now be applied for online through the city’s website.
The city hopes the addition of online permitting will be useful and will encourage more builders and real estate professionals to use legally permitted signs.
In 2010, representatives from NEFBA and NEFAR worked with city officials to create a provision in the ordinance code whereby home builders and realtors could obtain a city permit to legally place a temporary directional sign (advertising a model home or open house) in the city’s right-of-way. The permits are $30 per year for up to five signs.
The city’s online permitting process requires an applicant to first complete an identification form that allows the city to assign an ID number and password. The applicant can access the city’s permit application system remotely.
In the event the applicant does not already have a city assigned ID and password, he or she will need to complete the online registration form and return it to the Building Department.
Once the form is received, the city will assign the applicant an ID number and password and return that information to the applicant along with instructions on how to access the city’s permit application system.
