Park improvements: The Board of County Commissioners took another step to funding improvements to several sports facilities during its first meeting this year. Commissioners passed a resolution allowing proposed funding for four projects to be incorporated into the county government’s official capital improvement plan. The funding for these programs comes from $20 million in unspent bond money. The vote for the resolution was 4-1, with Commissioner Ronnie Robinson dissenting. Robinson said he believes the bond money should go toward infrastructure items such as roads and drainage.

St. Johns County

Comprehensive plan amendment: St. Johns County will conduct public hearings regarding amendments to the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan and the Land Development Code at 5 p.m. Feb. 17 before the Board of County Commissioners. The amendments, which include changes to the Vilano Town Center and the Northwest Scenic Edges, were introduced in June but delayed due to heavy public comment.

Streamlined Permitting: St Johns County growth management has improved the permitting process to save time and money for applicants wishing to obtain permits for new residential construction or home renovations. Applicants are now required to complete only one building permit application that contains both a clearance sheet and a building permit application. Applicants may submit requests for a clearance sheet and building permit simultaneously or sequentially (clearance sheet then building permit) at their choice. For more information, call (904) 209-0724.
