On Tuesday, June 9, the Northeast Florida Builders Association hosted an opportunity for its members and the newest members of the Jacksonville City Council to get to know each other.

Those in attendance at the lunch had the opportunity to hear presentations on Builders Care, the Apprenticeship Program and government affairs.

Eight of the 11 new incoming members of the council attended.

NEFBA President Rick Morales welcomed everyone and spoke to the impact of the construction industry on the economy of Northeast Florida.

Keith Ward of Thomas May Construction gave a presentation about the Apprenticeship Program and its importance to both the Jacksonville community and the construction industry, due to its ability to provide both career opportunities to local citizens and qualified tradesmen to local employers.

Larry Wittmer of Woodsmen Kitchen and Floors gave an overview of the Builders Care nonprofit and how it benefits the community, as well as how to present projects for consideration by the group.

Finally, NEFBA Past President and current Political Action Committee Chair Curtis Hart presented NEFBA’s positions on affordable housing, the mobility fee and density.

The meeting provided a great opportunity for the council members to learn about NEFBA and interact with members through both hearing presentations and asking questions.

The council members in attendance were Aaron Bowman, Anna Brosche, Katrina Brown, Garrett Dennis, Reggie Gaffney, Tommy Hazouri, Joyce Morgan and Scott Wilson.

The association is looking forward to working with all of the new members of the council over the next four years.
