Background
Jeff King inherited a do-it-yourself gene from his father. His four-year tour of duty with the U.S. Marine Corps after high school gave him the discipline, maturity and GI-bill funding to attend school and launch a career in construction. Using his entrepreneurial talents, King transacted part-time jobs and internships to his advantage, both financially and experientially. When he graduated from the ME Rinker Sr. School of Building Construction at the University of Florida, he landed a job with ICI Homes and was on the fast track to upper management when in 2007, residential construction was hit with a recession. Out of work, King decided to open his own business. Diversification, his wife Sarah and his own persistence enabled him to build a successful business in that challenging time. King Construction serves clients with an integrated project delivery on residential, commercial and land development projects.
Council events
Monthly meetings and training opportunities. In June, the E-Council is sponsoring a seminar, “Understanding the house as a system,” by nationally recognized expert Steve Easley. The seminar is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, June 11, at NEFBA. For more information about the seminar, see E-Council feature on Page 35.
Goals for the council
King said the council’s goals are being directed toward educating the public about current building science and technology. It’s no longer a one-solution-fits-all approach, but one that puts the facts into the hands of consumers so decisions can be made based on sound research. The council seeks to be a resource for Realtors, contractors, builders and the home-buying public. E-Council members welcome opportunities to speak to interested groups and organizations.
Benefits of council membership
The E-Council offers objective, accurate, state-of-the-art information about emerging technologies, construction materials and methods. Members of the council are kept informed of global and national issues related to construction, particularly as such issues relate to building in Northeast Florida.
