Months of planning. Hundreds of hours of labor in a 24-hour period. Maximum focus and commitment.
And, the result?
A dream come true in the shape of a new home in New Town.
To call this a challenge is perhaps an understatement. Who builds a complete house in 24 hours?
An unofficial poll of our builder members indicates that would be a foolhardy undertaking. But that was the goal of this year’s President Project and our challenge.
Our success is a tribute to our members, to the partnership we’ve created with HabiJax to help restore hope and pride in community in some of Jacksonville’s neglected areas, and to our commitment to affordable housing.
To the volunteers and sponsors, my personal thank you for the untiring effort you put forth to accomplish this goal.
I chose the HabiJax 24-hour build as the President’s Project this year because I believe in the mission of the organization.
Having worked with HabiJax on other projects and having served on the HabiJax board, I am inspired and motivated by their dedication to creating housing for those who might otherwise never realize the dream of owning their own homes.
In doing so, hope is restored in individuals and in communities. I’ve seen it happen and I’m proud to say, those goals are NEFBA’s goals as well.
Our Builders Care works to restore existing homes. Many of our members take on individual projects in Jacksonville and around the globe. NEFBA is a generous association and its response to those in need is worth noting.
It was an honor and a privilege to work with so many of you during this giant, but brief, effort. I hope you received the same level of enjoyment and satisfaction I did.
Seeing the smiling faces of the new homeowners was reward enough. Knowing this was a blessing to the whole community is icing on the cake.
Thank you all. You can be proud of your accomplishment. And, I am very proud of all of you.
