Duval

NEFBA’s Government Affairs Committee: The next Government Affairs meeting will be 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the NEFBA office, 103 Century 21 Drive, Suite 100.

Clay

New elected county officials: Clay County saw two new county commissioners, a new sheriff and a new school superintendent take office last month. Small business owner Mike Cella replaced termed-out District 1 Commissioner Wendell Davis. Cella will be joining retired Clay Sheriff’s employee Gayward Hendry who replaced termed-out District 5 Commissioner Ronnie Robinson. At the Sheriff’s Office, retired JSO officer Darryl Daniels won a four-way race to replace retiring Sheriff Rick Beseler. The Clay County School Board also saw a change in leadership, with Duval County education administrator Addison Davis beating incumbent Charlie Van Zant for the position of superintendent.

St. Johns

New county commissioners: St. Johns County swore in two new commissioners last month. Former St. Johns Water Management District Director Henry Dean replaced retiring Commissioner Racheal Bennett. Local business owner Paul Waldron will replace Commissioner Bill McClure, who stepped down to run for U.S. Congress. Commissioner Jim Johns also won his first election since his appointment to the commission in 2015.

Nassau

New county commissioner: Justin Taylor was sworn in as the newest county commissioner in Nassau County. Taylor replaces Junior Boatright, who stepped down to run for County Clerk of the Courts. Taylor works for the Nassau County Property Appraiser’s Office as the public information officer. Commissioners Pat Edwards and Danny Leeper won their re-election bids.
