Ameris to open in 121 Atlantic Place

Ameris Bank won’t be moving far when it opens a new Northbank branch office in Downtown Jacksonville.

The bank said Monday it would open this fall on the first floor at 121 Atlantic Place at 121 W. Forsyth St.

That’s just a few doors from its existing location at 100 N. Laura St., at Laura and Forsyth streets.

Ameris is bringing a bank back into the structure that was historically known as the Atlantic National Bank Building.

Market President Kendall Spencer said in a news release the location is “steps away” from its current branch, which Ameris assumed upon its acquisition of The Jacksonville Bank.

Ameris will lease 2,000 square feet in Suite 150 of 121 Atlantic Place and put up signs on the glass storefront windows and doors as well as an exterior sign on the corner of the building at Hogan and Forsyth streets.

Ameris is relocating now that CenterState Bank of Florida is moving its Jacksonville headquarters into the 100 North Laura building, including taking the lobby branch.

Cushman & Wakefield of Florida Inc. represented the landlord in the lease negotiations and Market Point Advisors LLC represented Ameris, according to the Burdette Ketchum agency.

Ameris executives said last week the relocated Northbank office and its new Southbank office in Riverplace Tower would be pilot locations for its “universal branches.”

As a “universal branch,” the design will eliminate teller windows and instead focus on a high-tech and customer-engagement open floor plan in which the bankers will interact one-on-one with customers and offer the newest banking technology.

Ameris said the Northbank office would be staffed with “the familiar faces of existing employees” and offer a complete range of financial services, including deposit and cash management services, consumer and commercial lending, residential financing, and SBA financing.

Ameris Bank President Andy Cheney said the 121 Atlantic Place move symbolizes the bank’s commitment to Downtown Jacksonville and Northeast Florida.

Ameris recently relocated its executive offices from Moultrie, Ga., to Riverplace Tower. It said it is the largest community bank in Jacksonville by deposit market share.
