AdventHealth held a grand opening July 10 for its first emergency room in St. Johns County, a 12-bed facility with a laboratory, X-ray equipment, ultrasound imaging and CT scanning capability.

The AdventHealth Treaty Oaks ER, at 1775 Florida 207 east of Interstate 95, will begin treating patients at 7 a.m. July 14. The emergency room cost more than $20 million, according to Rob Deininger, president and CEO of AdventHealth’s East Florida Division.

“Today marks AdventHealth’s first ER in St. Johns County, and it is only the beginning of our commitment here,” he said in a news release. “We know trust is earned, and we take that seriously. As this community grows, we are committed to growing with it.”

Robins & Morton was the general contractor. It was designed by HuntonBrady Architects.

AdventHealth opened its first St. Johns County clinic in November 2025, at 1000 Plantation Island Drive in St. Augustine, and plans to begin construction on a second emergency room in World Commerce Center this year. The moves are part of a broader expansion the company says reflects a long-term commitment to the county.

“For more than 20 years, we’ve had a strong presence in neighboring Flagler County, investing in the healthcare infrastructure with a new hospital, cancer treatment center and additional physicians,” Denyse Bales-Chubb, president and CEO for AdventHealth in St. Johns and Flagler counties, said in the release. “That same commitment to long-term health is now being extended to St. Johns County. This opening is a starting point, not a finish line. Our work here is just beginning.”

The emergency room will be staffed by about 50 emergency medical professionals, said Dr. Daniel McDermott, medical director and an emergency physician.

“It’s another access point that is closer to home when minutes matter. Emergencies obviously are all time-sensitive. So having some place to go that’ll hopefully be closer to these communities is going to do nothing but increase the chance to have a good outcome,” McDermott said.

AdventHealth operates 32 hospitals, nearly two dozen freestanding emergency rooms and hundreds of clinics throughout Florida.
