Amazon.com continues its move into Jacksonville.

The Seattle-based e-commerce retailer is identified on building documents as the user of a 237,053-square-foot warehouse in Westside Industrial Park.

Two Amazon fulfillment centers and a delivery station already have been permitted, making the Westside operation its fourth in Jacksonville.

The Amazon fulfillment centers are in development at Pecan Park Road and Interstate 295 in Northwest Jacksonville and at Cecil Commerce Center in North Jacksonville.

The smaller delivery station was permitted at Alta Lakes Commerce Center in North Jacksonville.

Documents submitted Monday with the city call the most recent project, at 4948 Bulls Bay Highway, “Amazon Phase 2.”

Phase 1 appears to be interior painting and lighting work.

Amazon did not return an email for comment.

The permit application and the building plans show the project as tenant improvements that involved structural support for roof-top units, dock-door details and trenching for utilities.

Roof-top units are HVAC systems for commercial buildings.

The company contact is listed as J.S. “Steve” Bear, who was identified in city emails in February as the Amazon executive seeking a meeting with building officials. He did not return a call for comment Monday.

Hitt Contracting of Atlanta is the contractor. BL Companies of Connecticut, an architectural, engineering, environmental and land surveying company, is the design professional.

The permit application lists a job cost of $500,000.

The city approved an electrical permit March 13 for the building at $290,000. EC Electric Inc. of Lawrenceville, Ga., is the contractor.

That permit covers replacement of 368 bay lights and temporary power for inside the building and two construction trailers.

In late February, Bear sought a meeting with city building officials to talk about permitting an existing building for the company, but canceled it for later rescheduling.

The facility, which was not identified in city emails, was described to be mostly automated and would need electrical, HVAC, conveyors, automation and racking

The Westside Industrial Park operation fits Amazon’s parameters for a sortation center, which typically are 200,000 to 300,000 square feet. They handle last-mile delivery service within the area. They employ 100-300 people.

The sortation description also matches a zoning application submitted this month for the building by Peter Anderson, vice president of Pattillo Industrial Real Estate.

That document shows that the unidentified user of the building was expected to create more than 200 jobs and represent a capital investment topping $5 million.

The building, on 14.87 acres, is owned by a company related to Pattillo. Anderson could not be reached for comment Monday or Tuesday morning.

Upon the completion of the four centers, including the sortation operation, Amazon would be using 3.7 million square feet of space in Jacksonville.

The Northwest Jacksonville center at 12900 Pecan Park Road will comprise 2.4 million square feet; the West Jacksonville operation at 13333 103rd St. will be 1 million square feet; the delivery station, at 11084 Cabot Commerce Circle, is 63,000 square feet.

Jobs would total at least 2,900, consisting of the 2,700 full-time positions at the fulfillment centers and the 200 at Westside Industrial Park.

Amazon did not disclose how many jobs the delivery station will require. Amazon also will need seasonal workers at the centers.

The fulfillment centers are expected to open this fall. A JAXUSA Partnership executive said previously that job fairs are possible about May.
