Ascension St. Vincent’s paid $4.5 million for 5 acres at northwest Beach and Kernan boulevards for what appears to be a free-standing emergency department.

On Feb. 21, JEA issued a service availability letter for EnVision Design + Engineering LLC for a project named West Kernan FSED. Ascension wasn’t listed on the service availability letter, but the project is described as a 15,000-square-foot free-standing emergency department on outparcels at Beach and Kernan.

Ascension St. Vincent’s bought the land through St. Vincent’s Health System Inc. from West Kernan Loan Acquisition LLC, whose managing member is Tamaya Property Holdings LLC.

Ascension St. Vincent’s spokesman Kyle Sieg couldn’t confirm what the hospital system intended to do with the property.

“We can confirm the purchasing of the land and we are in discernment about its specific use, but its purpose will be rooted in our desire to provide convenient access to personalized, clinically excellent care,” the statement said.

Ascension St. Vincent’s has two free-standing ERs under construction in Northeast Florida. One is at 9820 Hutchinson Park Drive in Kendall Town Center in Arlington and another is at 8083 Parramore Road near Collins Town Center.

In October, Ascension St. Vincent’s President Tom VanOsdol said the free-standing ER projects reflect the Jacksonville health system’s “desire to provide convenient access to compassionate, personalized care across our region.”
