Encompass Health named Brian Soares the CEO of its new Jacksonville rehabilitation hospital.

The 50-bed Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital at 11595 Burnt Mill Road plans to begin admitting patients in June, the company said in a news release April 21.

Encompass said Soares, who started the job Feb. 28, will be responsible for overseeing the hospital’s day-to-day operations as well as patient care and quality.

The hospital will provide 24-hour nursing care and physical, occupational and speech therapies to patients recovering from major illnesses and injuries including stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation and complex orthopedic conditions.

“Brian is a highly accomplished, results-driven leader with more than a decade of healthcare experience and the proven ability to impact organization performance,” Ronnie Wagley, president of Encompass Health’s South Atlantic region, said in the release.

Soares was CEO of Select Hospital in Miami Lakes. Before that, he served in leadership roles for Kindred Hospital.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in health science administration from the University of Florida and his master’s degree from Florida Atlantic University.

Soares serves on the South Florida Hospital and Healthcare Association board and previously was chair for the South Florida chapter of the American Lung Association.

Encompass Health says it operates 147 hospitals, 251 home health locations and 96 hospice locations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
