City permits almost $15 million for JIA checkpoint renovations

The expansion of passenger screening is part of the preparation to expand Concourse B at Jacksonville International Airport.

The city approved the start of renovations to the security checkpoints at Jacksonville International Airport at a project cost of $14.71 million.

Balfour Beatty Construction LLC is the contractor for the project at the airport at 2400 Yankee Clipper Drive.

Jacobs Engineering Group is the civil engineer.

The city issued a permit Dec. 5.

The Jacksonville Aviation Authority project will enlarge and renovate the existing security screening for passengers. It will increase passenger capacity and the number of screening lanes.

The checkpoint renovation is the first project in the Concourse B terminal expansion program.
