Volunteers in Medicine recently began a yearlong celebration of its 20th anniversary.

Founded by Dottie Dorion and Dr. Jim Burt, its mission is to provide health care to working uninsured patients in need. It serves those who would find a medical bill a budget buster.

Over two decades it has provided primary care, specialty care and education for more than 76,500 patients. It has two locations – 41 E. Duval St. Downtown and 5927 Old Timuquana Road in West Jacksonville.

In spring 2023, Volunteers in Medicine will relocate its Downtown office to 3726 Philips Highway, Suite 34, to what will be called Dorion-Burt Clinic. The Westside office will remain open.

The new location will double the number of exam rooms and include areas for triage, a dispensary and mental health counseling.

Next year the nonprofit will hold two fundraisers.

The first will be a Women with Heart Luncheon honoring six women in medicine and one in finance. The second is a golf tournament at Queen’s Harbour Yacht & Country Club in May.

Volunteers in Medicine set a $200,000 fundraising goal.
