Ed Hubel, interim president of Baptist Medical Center Clay, will fill the role permanently, Baptist Health announced Dec. 8.

Hubel, president of Baptist Medical Center Nassau since 2016, added the Clay County interim duties in June.

The Fleming Island hospital opened in December 2022.

Hubel assumes the permanent job Dec. 18.

Matthew A. Zuino, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Baptist Health, will serve as interim president at Baptist Nassau, the news release said.

The search for a permanent president in Nassau will begin in 2024.

Under Hubel’s leadership, the Nassau hospital received an A rating in patient safety 12 consecutive times and has been a five-star rated hospital by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the release said.

Baptist Medical Center Clay has 101 patient rooms and a 20-room maternity center. It provides a neonatal intensive care center as well as advanced heart and cancer care.

Hubel has had several roles at Baptist Health including assistant administrator of operations; administrator of surgical services; director of patient care operations; and service line lead for Baptist Health Orthopedics.

“I am overwhelmingly grateful to be appointed to this position. Having grown up in Orange Park, Clay County holds a special place in my heart,” Hubel said in the release.

“I have seen this special community grow and change through the years, and I look forward to continuing to provide the amazing care Baptist Health is known for in Northeast Florida.”
