The original Mini Bar Donuts shop at 1300 Beach Blvd. in Jacksonville Beach will close Feb. 19.

Owners Brooke and Chase Sams cited the location’s size and an expected rent increase as reasons in a Feb. 16 Instagram post.

The Jacksonville Beach store, which opened in 2018, has 1,000 square feet of unneeded space, the post said.

“We took over a space that many overlooked, and inherited it’s quirks. We pinched pennies and everything we had to get open, including selling our house, vehicle and Chase managing the buildout.

“The layout is no longer conducive to our needs.”

They have spent the last year looking for a new Beaches location but have not found a location meeting size and rent requirements.

The post said the owners will continue looking.

They faced an impending rent increase if they renewed the lease, but the owners did not blame the landlord for the store’s closing, the post said.

Mini Bar Donuts sells miniature, made-to-order donuts about one-third the size of traditional doughnuts. They are topped with an array of ingredients. In addition to coffee, it sells craft beer, mimosas and wine.

At one time there were three Mini Bar Donuts shops.

The location at 10618 Deerwood Park Blvd. near Gate Parkway remains open.

Referred to by the owners as “Gate,” it provides a central location for Beach customers and those on the Southside, the post read. Donuts are also available via Door Dash and Uber Eats delivery services.

A location at 1524 County Road 220 in Fleming Island opened in February 2022 and closed eight months later.

The Sams could not be reached for comment.
