Jacksonville-based Hampton Golf sold three private courses Oct. 28, including The Palencia Club in St. Johns County, for a total of $45.5 million.

Heritage Golf Group of Herndon, Virginia, bought the courses. Heritage said in a news release about the sale that it is the fastest-growing owner and operator of golf and country clubs in the U.S.

Through Palencia Golf Club LLC, Hampton sold the course at 600 Palencia Club Drive in St. Augustine to HGC Palencia LLC for $19.5 million, according to the St. Johns County Clerk of the Courts.

Palencia features an 18-hole course designed by Arthur Hills and a three-story, 33,000-square-foot clubhouse with dining areas and event spaces.

Hampton also sold The Plantation Golf & Country Club in Fort Myers for $18.5 million and The Country Club of Ocala for $7.5 million, according to Lee and Marion county court records.

Baymeadows-based Hampton Golf owns, manages and develops golf courses. According to its website, its remaining area courses include Blue Sky, Glen Kernan and Eagle Harbor. The sale would leave it with 25 courses.

MG Orender

Hampton Golf President MG Orender said in a news release that the company wanted to position the clubs for long-term success and said Heritage Golf Group was “the ideal fit.”

“Heritage has an outstanding reputation for reinvesting in its clubs and supporting on-site teams,” Orender said.

“We’re confident their leadership, experience, and commitment to private club excellence will continue to elevate the member and employee experience at these outstanding properties.”

With the additions, Heritage’s portfolio includes 46 clubs nationwide, including 12 in Florida.

The Plantation Golf & Country Club features an 18-hole course designed by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry. The clubhouse, known as The Great House, includes dining areas, a practice facility and event spaces.

The Country Club of Ocala includes an 18-hole course designed by Steve Nugent. Amenities include seven tennis courts, pickleball courts, a pool and a fitness center.

“Each property, while unique, reflects the core qualities of our portfolio, exceptional golf and vibrant member experiences,” said Mark Burnett, CEO of Heritage Golf Group, in the release.

"It has been a privilege to work collaboratively with MG and Hampton Golf throughout this smooth transition, and we look forward to building upon the strong foundation they’ve established at these clubs.”

Heritage Golf Group said early capital improvement plans are in discussion for the clubs.
