Pitney Bowes Inc. filed a notice with city and state officials June 10 saying it is closing its Jacksonville facility at 8551 Westside Industrial Drive, putting 68 people out of work.
A letter sent under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act to Mayor Donna Deegan, district Council member Randy White and the Florida Department of Commerce said the employees would be laid off from Aug. 14 through Sept. 18.
The letter gave no reason for the closure, and the company’s investor relations department did not respond to an email seeking more information.
Connecticut based Pitney Bowes provides shipping, mailing and financial services for its clients.
The WARN letter said the Jacksonville facility is part of its Pitney Bowes Presort Services business.
The company’s first-quarter earnings news release said that business “provides sortation services that enable clients to qualify for USPS workshare discounts in First Class Mail, Marketing Mail, Marketing Mail Flats and Bound Printed Matter.”
Pitney Bowes reported revenue in its presort division fell 8% in the first quarter to $163.4 million.
The company’s total revenue fell 3% to $477.4 million, but adjusted earnings rose 12% to $68.9 million.
Pitney Bowes has been at the site since at least 2013. The city issued a permit in February 2013 for a tenant build-out at the site.
