The first month of 2016 was a good one for builders across the four-county area that includes Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties. The January total of 572 exceeds the January total for the past 10 years. St. Johns County again leads in permits issued with Duval a strong second and showing an increase in its January activity over the past seven years. All four counties showed a rate of activity consistent with their December totals. Analysts see this as a steady, sustainable growth rate appropriate for Northeast Florida during the typically slower winter months.
