The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Mounted Unit patrols Downtown to make sure daily activity runs smoothly and without any disruptions. The unit also patrols Springfield, Riverside and San Marco. Their basic duties include crowd control, crime deterrence and community relations. They also work during Jaguars games and perform demonstrations at various schools and community groups around town. The Mounted Unit consists of one unit commander, one unit manager, one sergeant, five officers and six horses.
