• Turner Construction says the imploded coliseum site will be cleared and ready for parking by Aug. 31. The City originally asked Turner to get the site ready for the Aug. 15 Jags preseason home opener. However, the price tag was deemed “unrealistically high and not worth pursuing.”
• Real Estate chief Patricia Brown says the City is looking at several Eastside properties, including 1010 E. Adams St., to provide parking for the Sports Complex. The East Adams Street owners said they don’t want to sell, but Brown said the City could close a deal within three months after reaching an agreement.
• Not all pro football coaches are watching films year-round. Washington Redskins (and ex-Gator) coach Steve Spurrier was spotted at his Crescent Beach condo over the weekend.
• Don Maciejewski of Zisser, Robison, Brown, Nowlis and Maciejewski has been appointed chair of the Aviation Law Certification Committee of The Florida Bar. Maciejewski is a retired military pilot whose legal practice includes aviation, airplane and helicopter crash litigation.
• The doors most likely won’t open for business at Norm’s Pub and Post on Laura Street for some time, but a sign has been put up alerting pedestrians of the work going on inside.
• The Museum of Science & History plans to open the Florida Naturalist’s Center this fall. It will be home to animals from MOSH’s live collection. The expanded area will feature animals from Northeast Florida, including some endangered species.
• Audrey Moran, former mayor John Delaney’s chief of staff, has set up her own home law office. Apparently her desk is close enough to her washer/dryer that she can talk to clients and clean clothes for her four children at the same time.
• Darryl Mulligan is the newest hire for the Super Bowl Host Committee. A graduate of Edward Waters College, Mulligan will serve as director of community outreach and will also work with the NFL to establish a permanent Youth Education Town Center in Jacksonville.
• Brown Sugar Gallery & Gifts plans to open at 1030 Hendricks Ave. across from Reddi-Arts. Co-owner Marsha Hatcher says they’ll be open in about a week.
• Midnight movies are returning to the San Marco Theatre beginning Friday with a showing of “The Hunger,” the 1980s vampire film starring David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve. Movies will be shown every other Friday, with a repeat showing on Sunday at 1 p.m.

• A newly-formed labor union, the Jacksonville City Employees Union, is set to challenge the Professional Association of City Employees to represent City workers in collective bargaining. The two-year “election bar” that prevented attempts to reorganize PACE’s workers closed July 5.
• The site and bulkhead work at the Ortega River Club Condominiums will begin this month and construction will start this fall. Developer Heyward Cantrell said all
reservations have been converted to contracts.
