In preparation for Hurricane Dorian, the Clay County Board of Commissioners announced mandatory evacuations for residents living in Zones A and B and in low-lying areas will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Clay County officials said public shelters will open at noon Tuesday. Lake Asbury Junior High School will serve as the special needs shelter for Clay County.

Four general population center shelters will open at Clay High School, Orange Park High School, Wilkinson Elementary School and Keystone Heights High School.

Orange Park and Keystone Heights High Schools will be designated as pet shelters.

Clay County officials said they are expecting tropical storm-force winds and hurricane gusts with rainfall of 6 to 8 inches when Dorian begins to impact the area Wednesday morning.

This will create minor flooding in low-lying areas, including Williams Park and St. Johns River inlets. Storm surges there could be 4 to 6 feet.

About 10,000 people in Clay County are affected by the evacuation.

Residents of Clay County can find their evacuation zones at alert.claycountygov.com or by calling (904) 284-7703.
