Construction appears soon to start for Jackson Commons, the 66-unit student housing community planned a mile north of Jacksonville University.

The city continues to review permit applications for the $4.5 million construction of six apartment buildings and other structures, including an outdoor kitchen.

No contractor is listed. Conn & Associates Inc. Architects designed the project, which will be developed by Tramell Webb Partners of Orlando.

Jackson Commons is planned on 3.3 acres at 3607 University Blvd. at northeast University Boulevard and Fort Caroline Road.

The three-story buildings will comprise two, three and four-bedroom townhouses and flats for JU staff and students. Plans show each of the six buildings contains a different number of units – 21, 15, 12, 11, four and three.

A proposed 4,125-square-foot retail building would be separately permitted.
