The new Walmart Supercenter in northern St. Johns County will open Nov. 7, according to a store representative.

The store, at 845 Durbin Pavilion Drive, will host a grand opening ceremony with a ribbon cutting at 7:30 a.m., and will then open the doors to the public, the representative said.

The big-box store will be the first retailer to open in The Pavilion at Durbin Park, an 80-acre shopping complex on Race Track Road west of the newly completed State Road 9B extension.

Walmart's opening date was released by the international chain headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas, moments after Durbin Park's developers announced several new shops that will locate in the same center.

The shopping center will be built in four phases, with Walmart and many others being in the first phase, which includes about 650,000 square feet of retail space. Phases two through four will allow the developers to build up to 2.4 million square feet of retail space, 2.8 million square feet of office space, 999 multifamily units and 350 hotel rooms.

The chain hired about 350 employees to prepare for the grand opening, according to previous statements from the store.

The other stores within the Durbin Park center are under construction.

In April, Walmart announced plans to invest an estimated $200 million in Florida over the next year for store construction, improvements and innovations, including at Durbin Park.
