Jacksonville's first Nordstrom store at St. Johns Town Center will include its Ebar espresso bar coffee-shop concept at the entrance of the two-story department store.

Spokeswoman Kelly Skahan said Tuesday the Seattle-based retailer has 79 Ebar shops, which feature Nordstrom barristas serving hand-crafted beverages, custom-roasted coffee and espresso, fresh sandwiches, salads, snacks, local pastries and retail items.

A description at Nordstrom.com says Ebar also offers made-to-order smoothies and Kids' Cafe items.

Skahan said hours haven't been set yet, but the Ebar will open Oct. 3, the same day as Nordstrom.

Nordstrom will anchor the Phase III wing of St. Johns Town Center and will include eight more new stores at the southwest side of the center.

IBEX Construction is the contractor for the $300,000 project, a 1,503-square-foot tenant build-out. The city is reviewing the permit application.

The Ebar, which plans show will accommodate about 45 people, is designed as a separate space with its own entrance at the front of Nordstrom when approached from the new connector wing from the existing Louis Vuitton and Brooks Brothers stores.

Nordstrom.com says it operates restaurants or specialty coffee bars at more than 200 locations. The Ebar is one of more than a dozen concepts Nordstrom features.

The Nordstrom development is a $31 million construction project — $6 million for the shell and $25 million for the interior build-out.

Meanwhile, the Nordstrom Rack nearby at The Markets at Town Center is scheduled to open in a few weeks — Nov. 7.

Barberitos headed to Deerwood Commons

Barberitos, a Southwestern Grille & Cantina, plans a Jacksonville restaurant in Deerwood Commons at Southside Boulevard and Touchton Road.

A pending building permit shows Barberitos intends to open a 2,252- square-foot restaurant at 4320 Deerwood Lake Parkway, No. 106-107, not far from Publix. It's a $150,000 project and appears to be the former Camille's Sidewalk Café location.

Barberitos.com shows two restaurants in Nassau County — Fernandina Beach and Yulee — and lists the Deerwood Commons location as "coming soon." Two other Jacksonville sites are expected to be "coming soon" but are not identified. Another Florida restaurant is in Tallahassee.

The barberitos.com website said the company, based in Athens, Ga., has 49 signed restaurant locations, of which 34 are open for business in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee. The menu offers burritos, tacos, quesadillas, nachos, salads and more.

Waffle House plans site on Lem Turner

The city is reviewing plans for Waffle House at 11900 Lem Turner Road. Taylor & White Inc. is the civil engineer for the 38-seat, 1,645-square-foot store. The chain has at least 10 locations in Jacksonville, St. Augustine and Orange Park.

The Public House remodeling

The Public House restaurant and bar intends to open along Baymeadows Road at the Interstate 295 East Beltway. Plans show the former Times Grill/Bubba Burger Grill at 10915 Baymeadows Road, No. 135, will be remodeled. The 5,332-square-foot location is shown on plans with 152 inside seats and 72 outside. It's a $100,000 project. Vermey Architect is the designer.
