With the minor league baseball regular season only three weeks away, the Jacksonville Suns will hold an open casting call for national anthem singers, bat boys, Sunbeams and all other part-time positions at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Suns have 70 dates to fill with singers of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Auditions will be held on the baseball field and singers will be asked to perform the song in a traditional fashion and in its entirety. All ages are welcome and instrumentalists or vocal groups are also encouraged to audition.

Bat boys will also be interviewed and hired this Saturday at the Baseball Grounds, beginning promptly at 10 a.m. Bat boys should be at least 14 years old and have reliable transportation to and from the ballpark. All potential bat boys are asked to come with at least one parent or guardian and bring a copy of their most recent report card and their baseball schedule if they play during the summer. Bat boys will be expected to work hard, help maintain the cleanliness of the dugouts, help in the clubhouse and perform other duties as required.

The Suns are known for a commitment to customer service, and the team’s roster of Sunbeams are the front line of that effort. Sunbeams are typically high school or college-age girls who assist in all facets of customer service and promotions, including distributing giveaway items for promotions, helping with on-field entertainment, supervising birthday and team parties and entertaining the crowd during the game. Potential Sunbeams who are still in high school should also bring a copy of their most recent report card.

Other positions available for application this weekend include food and beverage staff, ushers, ticket takers, ticket sellers, cleaning personnel and team store retail employees. Applications are also being accepted during the week from 3:30-5:30 p.m. every day. For more information on the auditions or job openings, call 358-2846.

The Suns open the 2008 season against the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx, the Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, on April 3 at 7:05 p.m. The Suns are the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and a member of the Southern League of Professional Baseball.
