The Jacksonville office of Holland & Knight, in partnership with several local businesses, performed a day of service as part of a nationwide campaign to honor those who lost their lives Sept. 11, 2001.

 More than 100 volunteers went to Daniel to work on renovation projects including painting, landscaping, facility maintenance and sprucing up playground areas at the nonprofit’s Southside campus. In addition, there was a carnival with food and games for the young residents at Daniel.

Holland & Knight’s partners were A&D Chimney and Home Services, BNY Mellon, The Chester Bedell American Inns of Court, Deutsche Bank, Dunkin’ Donuts, Duval County Public Schools, Fifth Third Bank, Florida Coastal School of Law, Florida Blue, Florida East Coast Railway, Interline Brands, HOPE Worldwide, Jacksonville Church of Christ, Jet Blue, Krystal Klean, Kwiktrip Oil Co., Thompson Therapy, Wells Fargo and Yellowstone Landscaping.

Berdecia is new partner at Alexander DeGance Barnett

Samantha Giudici Berdecia is a new partner in the Alexander DeGance Barnett law firm. She was the first associate hired by the firm after it opened in 2010 and most recently held the position of senior counsel.

Alexander DeGance Barnett represents management in litigation and trial practice, focusing on labor, employment, education, civil rights and the prosecution and defense of other business interests.

Applicants sought for advisory groups

The Florida Bar board of governors is seeking applicants for vacancies to be filled during its December meeting:

Florida Rural Legal Services: One attorney, to serve a three-year term beginning Jan. 1, on its 20-member board of directors.

The mission of Florida Rural Legal Services is to provide accessible legal assistance that empowers low-income and disadvantaged populations.

Florida Realtor-Attorney Joint Committee: Five lawyers, one from each state appellate district, to serve two-year terms beginning Jan. 1. In addition, there is one at-large seat available.

The committee comprises 11 lawyers appointed by The Florida Bar and 11 Realtors appointed by the Florida Association of Realtors. It promotes cordial relations between the professions and presents educational seminars.

Wednesday: The Jacksonville Bar Association Judicial Relations Committee will host “Judges, JAs and Java” from 8 to 9 a.m. in Chief Judge Mark Mahon’s chambers at the Duval County Courthouse. It’s a chance to interact with judges and their assistants in a casual atmosphere. Details at jaxbar.org.

Thursday: The Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association will meet at 11:45 at The River Club for a CLE luncheon and a presentation by Florida Association of Women Lawyers President Jennifer Sullivan. Registration for members and nonmembers at JWLA.org.
