Whataburger is adding to its Jacksonville presence.

The city issued permits April 12 for Whataburger to build in Atlantic North in East Arlington.

Cloud CM LLC of Atlantic is the contractor for the 3,760-square-foot restaurant, drive-thru and trash enclosure on 1.25 acres at 11559 Atlantic Blvd. at a cost of $1 million.

Atlantic North is at northwest Atlantic and Kernan boulevards.

The restaurant is designed next to the RaceTrac gas station and convenience store and in front of the Cinemark theater under construction.

San Antonio-based Whataburger has more than 840 restaurants in 10 states. It has six area locations including along Philips Highway, Normandy Boulevard and Beach Boulevard in Jacksonville and in Neptune Beach, Orange Park and Yulee.

Another Whataburger is in review for Oakleaf Corner in Southwest Jacksonville.

The city is reviewing a permit application for the chain at 8239 Old Middleburg Road S. at an estimated cost of $1.7 million. 

The 3,205-square-foot restaurant is planned on 1.61 acres at northeast Old Middleburg Road South and Argyle Forest Boulevard. No contractor is listed.
