Philanthropists to be honored

The Association of Fundraising Professionals is hosting an awards luncheon Wednesday at noon at the Omni to recognize area philanthropists and volunteers who have contributed to the welfare of individuals and the community.

Those receiving recognition are:

• Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver, Outstanding Philanthropists of the Year. Since 1993, the Weavers, owners of the Jacksonville Jaguars, have made substantial investments in all areas of the non-profit community. Their special interests include higher education, arts and culture and social services.

• Meghan Victoria Hotchkiss, Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy. A 2001 graduate of Episcopal High School, Hotchkiss is being honored for implementing a summer day camp for at-risk children and teens.

• James H. Winston, Outstanding Volunteer Fund Raiser. Winston serves on several governing boards, including the YMCA, United Way, Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and Episcopal High School.

• First Coast Car Council, Outstanding Civic Organization. The Council consists of 35 area car clubs and raises money for a variety of area charities through its annual car show.

• Edna Sproull Williams Foundation, Outstanding Foundation. The foundation has been instrumental in funding many healthcare, social services and religion charitable initiatives in Jacksonville, including the Bridge of NE Florida, the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

• Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Outstanding Corporation. Recent contributions include leadership and financial support of Jacksonville University and a financial contribution to St. Vincent’s Hospital.
