Campbell’s Chunky Soup brought its national Tackle Hunger campaign to the Radisson Monday. A giant scale shaped like a spoon is used to determine the weight, in soup cans, of National Football League players nationwide. Ten times that amount in soup will be donated to food banks across the country before the Super Bowl in January. Second Harvest Food Bank is the local recipient of the soup. Jacksonville Jaguars Marcus Stroud and Mike Pearson took a break from training camp to participate in the program. Voted the “hungriest,” Pearson, an offensive lineman, totaled 26 cases of soup, while “chunky” Stroud, a defensive tackle, tipped the scales at 29 cases. “It used to be just one player [taking part],” said Campbell’s representative Vito Morice. “Now we do the hungriest and the chunkiest player.” At least 14 cities are participating in the Tackle Hunger campaign.
