• The Police Athletic League of Jacksonville has named its board members for 2002. They are Lt. L.V. Hayes, executive director; Thomas J. Purdie, president and chairman; Andrew Kantor, vice president; Chuck Hyman, vice president; Jake Olsen, secretary; Ted Baker, Tom Baker, Robert Barnes, Gordon Bass, Ed Burr, Pete Carpenter, Norm Demers, W.W. Gay, Robert Harris, Debra Igou, Robert Hoenschel, Patrick Ivey, Delores Kesler, Thad McNulty, Sidney Morgan, Herb Peyton, Larry Pritchard, Lynette Self, Jay Stein, David Stevens, Jim Tullis, Mike Weinstein and Alton Yates.

• The Florida Theatre has named its board of directors for 2002. They are William M. Sulzbacher, chairman; Gertrude Peele, vice chair; T. Keith Perry, treasurer; Elizabeth Newton, secretary, Gurdon W. Hornor, Susan DuDow, Bruce Reis, Don Davis, Michael Hume, Dr. Thomas L. Klechak, Marty Lanahan, Irene Lazarra, Joan G. Monsky, Richard L. Mueller, Ted Pappas, Stephen C. Rankin, Georgia Reed, Lesley N. Roberts and Marilyn Spiller. Ex officio members are Jim Citrano, Terry Lorince and Mary Jones.

• The Morocco Shriners elected David E. Newton illustrious potentate (CEO) at its annual elections. The divan (board of directors) were also elected: Gary L. Thigpen, chief rabban; Chuck Bethune, assistant rabban; Larry Koblentz, high priest and prophet; Jim Raines, oriental guide; George Baccach, treasurer, and Arthur L. Doss, recorder.

• The Republican Women’s Club Duval Federated will host A Midwinter’s Night Dream, a fashion show and dinner Friday at the Southpoint Marriott. State Sen. Jim King is the master of ceremonies. Models include U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw, State Rep. Don Davis and Mayor John Delaney. There’s a reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Cost is $50 per person or a table of eight for $1,000. For information, call 262-2927.

• Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum will host an opening reception Jan. 25 from 5-8 p.m. for photographer El Grabar, who opens a new exhibition Jan. 21.

• Radio personality Dave Ramsey will be in town Jan. 24 from 5:30-10 p.m. at the Evangel Temple on Ramona Boulevard to discuss financial counseling. Ramsey is the host of “The Dave Ramsey Show” and author of “Financial Peace.” For ticket information, call

• The Cowford Club is scheduled to meet today at 5:30 p.m. at the American Cafe at the Landing.

• Susan Nelson has been named branch manager of the Amelia Island Morgan Stanley branch office.

• Martinez Communications, a local advertising agency, has been hired to represent Hispanic CREO, a national, non-partisan organization representing the educational interests of Hispanic children. Martinez Communications will create a national public awareness campaign to educate Hispanic families regarding their educational options.

• The Ponte Vedra Beach Federated Republican Women’s Club is hosting an evening with Sean Hannity, host of the news show Hannity & Colmes, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. Tickets range from $65-$1,000. For information, call 273-8445.

• The San Marco Art Festival is scheduled for Feb. 9 and 10 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Over 150 artists are expected. Admission is free.
