The Pride of Baltimore II arrived in Jacksonville Wednesday for a five-day visit. Docking in front of the CSX Transportation building, the ship was greeted by about a 100 citizens and dignitaries.

“CSX is happy to host the Pride of Baltimore II,” said Randy Evans, CSX vice president of real estate and industrial development. “CSX’s Baltimore roots run deep. The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, America’s first chartered railroad, is CSX’s oldest predecessor line. Many of our employees are proud natives of Baltimore, including CSX president Michael Ward.”

In addition to welcoming the ship to Jacksonville, Mayor John Delaney discussed plans for the Sail Jacksonville Tall Ship Festival.

“The St. Johns is Jacksonville’s most precious natural resource and we are excited about celebrating the river,” said Delaney. “The Pride of Baltimore II is just a preview of great things to come with this new festival.”

“This is one of the things that will help establish Jacksonville as a friendly port to all tall ships across America.” said City Council member Lynette Self, who is instrumental in starting the festival.

The Sail Jacksonville Tall Ship Festival is scheduled for May 16-18 in front of the Landing. The event will be an annual waterfront festival celebrating Jacksonville’s maritime heritage.
