• Dr. Bruce R. Maddern, a pediatric otolaryngologist and chief of otolaryngology and children’s surgical services at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, has been elected president of the American Lung Association of Florida, Northeast Region, for a one-year term. Scott P. Keith, the senior vice president at SunTrust Bank, North Florida, was elected vice president, and David C. Hodges Jr., vice president of the Scott McRae Group, was elected to serve a two-year term as a member of the regional advisory board.

• Martha Leverock, operations manager of the Greater Jacksonville Fair Association, has been awarded the Certified Fair Executive designation by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions.

• The Jacksonville Food Fight Round 13 is scheduled for Thursday at Alltel Stadium. Over 40 local restaurants will be participating. Tickets are $40 and all the proceeds will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank. For information, call 353-3663.

• The Girl Scouts of Gateway Council have reelected Jan Lipsky of St. Vincent’s as its president. Other officers are B.J. Hausman, James Richardson, Linda Morrow, Beth Gordon and Michael Nowlan. Board members are Bonnie Barnes, Chris Clore, Mary Dolan, Barbara Goodman, Marcia Howard, Pegeen Hanrahan, Meltonia Jenkins-May, Marsha Oliver, Mary Alice Phelan, George Ross, Dwaine Stevens, Ruthine Tidwell, Kim McCoy, Betty Chapman and Julia Fox.

• Sharon and Bill Dennis will chair this year’s Cowford Ball, a fund raiser for the American Cancer Society. It’s Sept. 21 at the Fairgrounds.

• The Ronald McDonald House Discovery Board will host a Pig Pickin’ party June 22 from 4-8 p.m. at the FOP Lodge in Ponte Vedra Beach. Proceeds from the barbecue benefit the SibShops program, which offers support to the brothers and sisters of seriously ill and injured children. Tickets are $20. For information, call 807-4663.

• The next Pink Slip Party is scheduled for June 10 at Seven Bridges Grill.

• Theatreworks and CitiGroup are hosting the Emmy Award-winning television program “Reading Rainbow” this week at the Florida Theatre and the T-U Center. The show is free. For reservations and showtime information, call 353-3500.
