• Marla Lucas, vice president/media services director of Scott-McRae Advertising, has been named chair for the 2003 Fourth District (Florida and Caribbean) American Advertising Federation (AAF) awards. Known as the Addys, the awards ceremony features the district’s best advertising as judged by a committee of peers. It will be held in May 2003 at the Kennedy Space Center.

• Terri Frame has been promoted to business manager at the Taylor Day and Currie law firm.

• The Jacksonville Museum of War and History will hold its first public presentation June 6 at 7 p.m. at Jacksonville University’s Terry Concert Hall. Speakers include Frank Hanna, president of the museum and quality engineer for the Hubble telescope; Jennifer Carroll, executive director of Florida Veteran Affairs and Dr. Kurt Kersch, a retired Navy captain. The goal of the museum is to become and interactive experience that exhibits America’s history from the American Revolution to the Sept. 11 attacks.

• The City will sponsor a household hazardous waste collection day Saturday at the City’s south mulch site, 11771 Philips Highway.

• The final report of the Historic Downtown Task Force will be presented today at 4:30 p.m. at Historic Snyder Memorial. The task force was created by City Council president Matt Carlucci to study was to save historic downtown buildings.

• Terry West, president and CEO of VyStar Credit Union, is the speaker at Monday’s Meninak Club meeting. It’s scheduled for noon at the Radisson.

• Richard F. Corlin, president of the American Medical Association, is the speaker at Monday’s Rotary Club meeting. It’s scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the Omni.

• Jim Valenti, director of the Asia-Pacific practice at Rogers, Towers, Bailey Jones and Gay law firm, returned recently from a three-week business trip to China, which included stops in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. He was there on behalf of North Florida clients with varied interests in China, including manufacturing, import/export, product distribution and a variety of service sector projects.
