• The Rotaract Club, the young professional organization sponsored by the South Jacksonville Rotary Club, is hosting a membership drive Thursday at 6 p.m at The Haskell Building. Rotary District Governor Tommy Grimes is the speaker.

• London Bridge Pub is hosting an Ales Around the World Tasting May 29. For $15 you’ll get to try each of the 11 ales the pub keeps on tap. Proceeds will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

• Jim Cox has moved from Vestcor Development to Summit Contractors. He’s been the senior vice president of operations.

• JUMP, the young professional organization, is hosting a sheriff’s forum Wednesday. John Rutherford, David Anderson and Lem Sharp will discuss their views at Benny’s Steak and Seafood at the Landing from 5:30-8 p.m.

• The Morocco Shrine Center will sponsor its Spring Carnival April 11-20. The event features 25 rides and attractions.

• The Jacksonville Humane Society is currently searching for pets to feature in its Furry Faces Calender. Those interested in getting their pet into the calender need to send a 11-by-11 photo to the JHS Calender Committee at 8464 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, 32216, by June 27. There is a $10 fee.

• Comcast Cable has partnered with Gov. Jeb Bush for his “Celebration of Reading” literacy initiative. The cable provider has agreed to donate over $1 million worth of public service announcements and special programming to be aired throughout the year.

• The Jacksonville Naval Air Station Association, an organization of all federal employees who are employed by the Naval Air Station and its outlying bases, has named City Council vice president Lad Daniels its 2003 Man of the Year.

• Donna Hrinak, the U.S. ambassador to Brazil, is scheduled to speak at a breakfast seminar Wednesday at The University Club. The seminar is co-sponsored by CSX Transportation and Crowley American Transport and will focus on the current economic conditions in Brazil. To RSVP, call Robin Hoselton at 366-6690.

• Southpoint Baptist Church is hosting a Gospel Sing Friday at 7 p.m., featuring The First Baptist Quartet, Southern Grace Quartet and the Southpoint Sanctuary Choir. For details, call 731-0333.

• “Expressive Impressions: Three Decades of American Abstract Prints,” opens at the Cummer Museum on May 15. The exhibit features 81 works from the 1940s to the 1960s collected by Charles Randall Dean.

• Angie Palmer has been named vice president and loan portfolio manager for the Jacksonville Economic Development Company.
