• Four have been promoted at Jacksonville University: Dennis Dormady, associate professor of computing sciences and this year’s JU Professor of the Year, has assumed additional responsibility as the University’s Chief Technology Officer; K.C. McCarthy, director of campus facilities, has been promoted to assistant vice president for Administration; Greg Kaufman, director of campus projects, has been promoted to director of campus facilities, replacing McCarthy; and Ellen Paige, who has long served as budget director, has been promoted to executive director of budgets and business operations.
• Former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev and Michael Reagan, the eldest son of former president Ronald Reagan, will participate in a public forum Oct. 2 at the University of North Florida. The forum begins at 5:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $130 and available at the UNF box office.
• The Duval County Legislative Delegation is scheduled to meet Tuesday from 12:30-2 p.m. at the Schultz Center with a panel of representatives from the Florida Department of Financial Services, Division of Workers Compensation. The purpose is to explain and educate the public on the changes in Florida’s workers compensation laws. The public is encouraged to attend.
• The Florida Venture Forum will present an educational program entitled “Preserving Equity Capital — Understanding Term Sheets, Valuation Metrics, Mezzanine Financing and other Capital Raising Tools” Sept. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel, 1201 Riverplace Blvd. Full ratchets, liquidation preferences, retroactive repricing and valuation will be discussed in a lively role-playing session by a panel of successful professionals playing the role of an entrepreneur, venture capitalist, two attorneys and CPA.
