• Former sheriff’s department publicist Harry Reagan left when his boss, Nat Glover, was term-limited. Reagan, who you’ll also remember as a Ch. 4 editorial reader and a City Council member, says he’ll devote time to the Jacksonville Historical Society. “I’m in my fourth year as president,” he said. “No term limits here.”

• Ex-mayor Ed Austin is planning to remarry later this year. Austin, widowed when wife Patricia died after a car wreck about five years ago, has been squiring Connie Green, the widow of Dr. Stan Green.

• Could three be the number for our Tillie Fowler? With the death last week of the nominee for Secretary of the Navy, her name will come up again for the job, which she didn’t get when President Bush took the White House and again when she was passed over when the first secretary resigned.

• Downtown needs to have its best face on next week; the Governor’s Conference on Tourism will be at the Adam’s Mark Hotel for three days starting Sunday. Lots of tourism officials and travel writers will be here.

• A dozen City Council members so far have signed up for the Chamber’s Leadership Trip to Dallas in October. Also going: UNF president (and ex-mayor) John Delaney.

• Best wishes to Better Jacksonville Plan project manager Taye Brown, who was involved in a car accident last weekend. He’s in a coma at Shands Jacksonville, but doctors say the injuries are not life threatening.

• The Atrium Cafe in Independent Square features an Atkins Diet option on its menu. It includes protein and two vegetables, which change daily.

• Following her appointment to serve as the City Council Liaison to the Jacksonville Children’s Commission, Council member Lynette Self has resigned from the Mayor’s Council on Fitness and Well Being.

• Correction: A story Monday about City pension funds incorrectly stated the amount of the City’s general fund to be $4.5 billion. The correct amount was reported in paragraph two: $1.5 billion.

• City Real Estate Division chief Patricia Brown’s ordinance requiring Council review for any City land acquisition over $100,000 goes before the Council tonight for the second time. The Council has commonly reviewed acquisitions costing $25,000 or more. Brown said in an e-mail that the legislation would expedite projects and save the Council time.

• If you’re traveling on I-95 north, beware. Because of road construction around the airport exit, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has a speed trap set-up almost daily.

• New grandfathers: attorney Charles Commander and developer Heyward Cantrell. It’s a girl for their offspring, Chris and Barbara Commander.

• Fashion question: did Jaguars Coach Jack Del Rio do something to lighten his hair color? Speculation: nothing chemical — just too much sun.
