Putting an end to a combined 74 years at the Duval County Courthouse, sisters Delores Battinelli and Sylvia Blythe said goodbye Friday at a retirement party at the courthouse.

“It’s just been wonderful,” said Blythe. “I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my life, but I’ll miss everyone.”

Battinelli has been the chief assistant clerk and Blythe has served as the executive assistant.

Clerk of the Courts Jim Fuller called the sisters “a real asset” while State Attorney Harry Shorstein further praised their work over the years.

“They’ve led wonderful careers here,” said Shorstein. “They are outstanding court employees. They’ve always been professional, confidential and helpful. That’s important.”

So what’s next?

“I’m looking forward to doing whatever I want,” said Battinelli. “On Monday I’ll probably stay in my robe until noon.”
