Members of the Young Lawyer’s Section of the Jacksonville Bar Association spent Tuesday morning with Wolfson High School law magnet students, teaching them the basics of the justice system. To illustrate the workings of both the criminal and civil legal systems, the details of an actual robbery/murder case from 1998 were presented. The prosecuting attorney from the State Attorney’s Office and the defense attorney in the criminal case were present to explain their roles in the trial. Chris Hazelip, the lawyer representing the family of the victim in the civil case, talked about how the proceedings differed in that lawsuit. Ironically, this case was just appealed a few weeks ago so
some facts had to be withheld.
