LandMar Group President and Chief Executive Officer Ed Burr was recently honored by Builder Magazine and Hearthstone, as one of the recipients of the Hearthstone-Builder National Lifetime Public Service Award for his significant contributions and exemplary public service.
The Hearthstone-Builder Award is the largest and most prestigious philanthropic prize in the housing industry and is presented each year to leading builders and developers who have demonstrated a lifetime commitment to public and charitable service.
Burr was awarded $15,000 to donate to the charities of his choosing. He was one of eight individuals selected from across the nation to receive an award.
One of Burr’s most significant contributions to public service was the creation of the Monique Burr Foundation for Children in 1997. The Foundation was created in honor of his late wife Monique Burr, who spent much of her adult life as an advocate for children.
“Ed has taken a tragic personal loss and turned it into a vehicle for providing hope and help for so many abused children and families in need of guidance and assistance,” said Barbara Florio, Monique Burr Foundation executive director. “His example of strong leadership, altruism and human compassion permeates from his personal life, to his business dealings and on to everyone he meets. It is wonderful to see him recognized for all he does for others.”
Burr has also given generously, both in time and monetary donations, to the Children’s Crisis Center, Fresh Ministries, Building for Life, Christian Healing Ministries and the Police Athletic League.
Whether he is dividing his time between one of the numerous charitable, educational or professional boards on which he serves, opening his home to host a beach party for underprivileged children or donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to various charitable organizations each year, those who know him say he displays a commitment to public service and the betterment of others, which he has integrated into all aspects of his life.
