While a lot of work remains to be done before it can fully open, the new Gold’s Gym downtown location is about a month away from a partial opening, said Scott Tucker, regional director for the gym’s two Jacksonville locations.
Currently, the gym’s downtown location only has a few panels of drywall up and a coat or two of black ceiling paint applied, but Tucker said new members will soon be able to work out in a “mini-gym” during construction.
“We should be in by next month,” Tucker said. “Members will be able to work out while the rest of the gym is being built out. It will be just like a mini-gym.”
To appease the approximate 350 who already have signed up, Tucker said a portion of the first floor section of the gym will be equipped with multiple fitness machines, treadmills and
free weights. While the gym’s showers and
locker rooms haven’t been built yet, Tucker
said changing rooms will be available for
exercisers.
Tucker said he doesn’t think there will be any major complications with members working out while the construction is underway, but he expects some possible small glitches.
“We have separated (the mini-gym) from the construction but there might be some dust here and there,” he said. “I don’t think it will be a big problem though. They will mainly do work on the second floor.”
