ABOTA teaches courtroom civility

The American Board of Trial Advocates will host its Professionalism and Civility in the Courtroom Seminar Nov. 8 at the Florida Coastal School of Law’s International Hall. Featured speakers include Circuit Court Judge McRae Mathis, Circuit Court Judge Waddell Wallace and State Attorney Harry Shorstein. The seminar is scheduled for 4:30-6 p.m. at FCSL Room 267. A reception will follow.

Florida Bar seeks nominees for Goldin Award

The Executive Council of the Criminal Law Section of the Florida Bar is seeking nominations for candidates to receive the Selig I. Goldin Memorial Award. The award recognizes contribution to Florida’s criminal justice system. The Council will make its selection at the Bar’s mid-year meeting in January and present the award during the Bar’s annual meeting in June. New practice in Riverside

Gainesville native Patrick Pou has returned to Florida after eight years of law practice in Georgia. Pou has opened his own practice at 2720 Park St., Suite 223 in Riverside. Pou graduated from Emory School of Law in 1997 and has since practiced in Atlanta working as in-house counsel for State Farm Insurance in addition to work at two firms. Pou passed the Florida Bar in 2004. His practice in Jacksonville will focus on personal injury litigation.

Holbrook, Akel adds three

John M. Benton, Bethany Ray Reichard and Tara B. Van Rooy recently joined Holbrook, Akel, Cold, Stiefel and Ray, P.A. as associates.

Dixon to become judge

Coffman, Coleman hosting seminar

Coffman, Coleman, Andrews and Grogan are hosting a special seminar on legal documentation this week. The all-day event is being held Wednesday at River City Brewing Co. and starts at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $100 for the first attendee and $75 for each additional. Sen. Martinez to visit Hispanic Bar

The First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is hosting a luncheon Nov. 4 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the University of North Florida’s University Center. U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez will be the featured speaker. A private reception for Martinez is being held either immediately prior or immediately after the luncheon, with the time to be confirmed by the senator’s staff soon. Members of the Hispanic Bar Association of Northeast Florida who attend the luncheon also are invited to attend the private reception. Cost for the event is $35.
