Jacksonville Homebuyer and the Northeast Florida Builders Association are looking for a few good builders - 20 builders, to be exact, who made a difference during 2005.

“Most people involved in the new-home construction industry are aware of the charitable and community efforts of area builders,” said Penelope Geismar, Jacksonville Homebuyer publisher. “But many of those efforts go unrecognized by the public, and we want to change that. Builders do a lot and they deserve to be acknowledged.”

Last year was the first Good Neighbor Awards luncheon.

“We are building on the goodwill generated by the Good Neighbor Awards,” she said. “I think we’ve raised the awareness of the community about all the positive efforts of builders, and we hope to see more entries and more participants in the awards luncheon.”

Awards will be made based on a company’s total effort, not the size of any one project.

“Many builders are modest about all they do to give back to the community, and some may not even realize the impact they have,” Geismar said. “We think their stories will inspire others to do more, and the net effect will be more than a much-deserved pat on the back. Our goal is to show just how important the builders’ contribution is to the community and to motivate other builders to increase their efforts to improve the quality of life in Northeast Florida.”

The awards will be presented at a celebratory luncheon this summer. Proceeds from the Good Neighbor Awards luncheon will benefit the Arnold Tritt Scholarship Fund. Last year’s luncheon generated a $5,000 contribution to the fund.
