The Florida Bar Board of Governors is seeking applicants for several vacancies. The positions will be filled at the board’s Dec. 8 meeting, and the terms start on Jan 1.

Vacancies include:

• One attorney is needed to serve a three-year term on the Florida Rural Legal Services, Inc. 21-member Board of Directors. The mission of Florida Rural Legal Services is to provide free civil legal assistance to the poor and the elderly in 13 counties of Florida, as well as to migrant farmworkers throughout the state. Other appointments to the board are made by local bar associations and community groups, including the NAACP, the Coalition of Farmworker Organizations, the Omega Youth and Development Organization and others.

• Five attorneys, one from each state appellate district, are needed for two-year terms on the Florida Realtor-Attorney Joint Committee. The committee is composed of 10 lawyers appointed by the Florida Bar and 10 realtors appointed by the Florida Association of Realtors. The committee promotes cordial relations between realtors and attorneys and presents educational seminars.The Florida Bar president receives the recommendations of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section for consideration.

• Two attorneys are needed to serve six-year terms on the 15-member commission authorized under Article V, Section 12 of the Florida Constitution. The members will investigate complaints against judges whose conduct demonstrates an unfitness to hold office, and possibly recommend disciplinary action to the Supreme Court. No member of the commission, except a judge, shall be eligible for state judicial office while acting as a member of the commission and for a period of two years thereafter. No member of the commission shall hold office in a political party or participate in any campaign for judicial office or hold office; provided that a judge may campaign for judicial office and hold that office.

Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of an application.
